It all depends on what you intend for the day - one-off, an introduction to a series of events, annual event etc. etc.

It also depends on how big your organisation is - small company, large company, single site or multi-site, one location or national and even international?

Also, what is the intention behind it? Is it to introduce a new policy manual or development of a management system, or to support an existing one? Is it to bring a general awareness of safety at work and home, or are there certain issues that could be focussed on that would result in specific benefits to current working practices? Would it benefit from having local safety providers bringing stands to promote products/services and invite other companies to attend (a mini exhibition)? Would inspirational speakers be helpful (a mini-seminar)?

If you give more general info on your company and what you intend to achieve then someone here is bound to be able to give more helpful advice than I can!

I recall doing something similar a few years ago. We took the approach of hazard spotting and everyone that spotted a potential problem received a gift (pen, torch etc..) that carried a corporate safety slogan. This seemed to motivate employees to take an interest in H&S issues for the duration of the exercise.
