Robert,

Not sure how much this will help, but try this link:

http://www.recycle-more.co.uk/b2b/b2b_bus.html

They have a piece on lighting and this mentions recycling of flourescent tubes with the contact number of a service provider in Manchester - perhaps they can give you some advice on the subject.

Hi Robert,

The Environment Agency produce guidance that can be found under the special waste explanatory notes link

The documents you require are SWEN047 & SWEN047A
the web address is:

I don't know about safe disposal / handling guidance, but when I worked for a manufacturing company, we had large quantities of tubes to get rid of, cleanaway would do it but were extremely expensive so two options arose, we bought lamps from a local firm who charged 5p extra per tube to take away the old tube being replaced. Also as part of my enquiries I contacted the local council's FM department. they had amonthly 'tube run' and for a fee they would take so up to x number of tubes, this helped them as the more tubes the cheaper it became for them.
