Anyone got any bright ideas about handling mattresses we deliver and store all sizes up to 6 foot. They are like trying to pick up a very heavy bag of water and pointers would help

You will, obviously need an assessment for the particular items (taking into account, rigidity, hand-holds, distances, weights, etc, etc) and to follow the guidance in L23 - but, in any event, if the job is to be done manually it must, in my opinion, require more than one person.

Look in industrial handling catalogues. You can get devices that help you move flat boards between horizontal and vertical, and move them around. Might work with mattresses.

Being currently involved in the furniture trade I have to agree with Ken - team working. It might cost more in the short term but when those strains start to take effect .......
