Do any of you conduct the fit test on disposable masks (FFP1) as required by the COSHH Regs ?
Considering that these are disposable, and may be replace several times throughout the day, do you repeat the test each time the mask is changed?
Can anyone explain how an FFP1 mask, filtering down to about 5 microns, can be tested. NaCl test is pointless as the NaCl particles are about 3 microns and will therefore pass through the filter media, same goes for any gas based test. What do you test disposable masks with and what is the particle size (how can you ensure that the particles are not just passing through the filter media, rather than testing the face seal).
Shane.

A full fit test does not have to be done every time the mask is changed (although the wearer will need to ensure that the mask is fitted correctly).
If you are using one of the proprietary fit testing kits, check with the supplier about using an appropriate particle size for the test.
Have you seen the HSE guidance on fit testing? If not, search for it on their website (it is an Adobe Acrobat file which can be downloaded).
