Can a HSE Inspector make an inspection of work premises after an anonymous phonecall to say a trespasser has fallen from a roof -and which was not reported .
Can you point me to any relevant legislation for this ?
Also if the Inspector is injured during his Inspection by machinery can he legally submit an Improvement notice to the afore mentioned Company ?
(This is all theoretical by the way before anyone starts to worry... )

The wide ranging powers of inspectors are spelt out in section 20 of the 1974 Act.

Lesley,
Yes and yes. In addition if an HSE inspector was injured during his visit he could also make a claim for damages in civil law.

Don't forget Local Authority Enforcement Officers and EHO's have the same Section 20 powers as HSE Inspectors.
