Dear John
Are you wanting to calculate the extent of the zones around a place where a substance that can form an explosive atmosphere can escape? If so, then the method is described in BS EN 60079 part 10 1996 'Electrical apparatus for explosive gas atmospheres; Classification of hazardous areas'. There are some worked examples in the standard, but it is not exactly an easy read!

John,

Contact HSE Labs. They assisted my previous company with the risk assessment process for explosive atmospheres.

Sorry don't know their contact details but an internet search should reveal their contact information.

Regards,

Paul Craythorne
