Hello all,
I recently heard someone making a speech and they talked about the 4 C's when referring to people's attitudes to health and safety.
I can't quite remember what was said. I think there were the Criminals, who have no intention of complying with the law. Then came the Clueless, who were well meaning but hadn't a clue. Then came the Contenders.
Does anyone know what I am on about and can fill in the missing bits?
Thanks,
Karen

TLA's (three letter abbreviations) always mean something to someone. Just make sure when you are using them you and the person you are having a conversation with have the same understanding.
For example:
BA= british airways or breathing apparatus or batchelor of arts

I think it was maybe: Criminals, Clueless, Compliant and Contenders.
Not sure about the contenders one though.

Thanks Jack, you're right, 4th C should have been - Control.
TLA means Three Letter Acronyms to me. Proves your point James.

I used to teach "Bomb Scene Management" at The MoD Police Training School in Wethersfield in Essex and used the 4 C's in this way...
CONFIRM
CLEAR
CORDON
CONTROL
It does have Health & Safety implications!!!!!!

It's possible the forth "C" may be Complacent.

I'll set them up, you knock them down.
The old ones are still the best

I am sure that I read somewhere the HSE was getting together with the CBI and the TUC to ban the use of TLA’s, and then they were going to look at why abbreviation is such a long word?
