Posted By Alex Ryding Hi all I’m after a little info on storage of compressed gases inside a building. We have a laboratory which uses bottled compressed gas (Helium, Hydrogen and Nitrogen) for analytical purposes. We have the bottles held in place and attached safely but are there any other items need to address with regards storage of compressed gas inside. Thank you for your anticipated help. Alex

Posted By Jon Hookings As part of our manufacturing processes, we also store bottled compressed gases indoors. The hydrogen cylinders we use are stored in an outdoor compound, and are only brought inside when they are needed for the process. At the end of the shift, they are stored back outside, so they are never left in the building unless they are being used. The areas where we use bottled nitrogen, helium and carbon dioxide all have fixed oxygen depletion systems so that an alarm will sound if the oxygen level drops, and the employees will evacuate. I hope this information helps. Kind regards Jon

Posted By Robin B Hi Our Labs use similar gases but as we cover two stories we decided to store externally and pipe to where used. BOC would most likely give you more/better info Robin

Posted By J Knight Small pressure vessels are subject to a stautory inspection by a competent person, I think it's something silly like every 14 months but would accept 12 (I know it's 14 for LEV but it's a long time since I did this a spart of Dip2!) this inspection also applies to accessories, such as valves, John
