Do you think that desks and chairs are classed as work equipment?

Hi Lorraine,
If they make up a workstation then yes.

Yes if they are provided by the company for the use of the employee when at work then they are work equipment and should be maintained and fit for purpose. (In my opinion)

Thanks ~ there are some really wobbly desks in use here and so I was wondering under what regs can I push for them to be repaired or replaced.
Do you think PUWER is best?

If you have to go for a 'regulation' in order to achieve what you need then I would suggest PUWER is a pretty good one for just about anything!

Lorraine,
To enlarge a bit on what Alan said, if the desks are part of a workstation, in its widest sense and not just in connection with computers, then Reg 11 of the workplace Regs would apply as well as PUWER,

Don't forget the DSE regs - the ergonomic implications of wobbly workstations - have you carried out DSE assessments ?

Yes I am ploughing through the assessments and some of the workstations are in a shocking state.
Unfortunately money is tight and I have to use non-compliance to regulations to get any action taken on anything at the moment.
