Posted By John Lewis I've dealt with suspended scaffolding over large water tanks and initially insisted that the scaffolders wore clipped on harness and a lifejacket as well. This proved to be very cumbersome and impractical, and probably bordered on being dangerous in its own right. A fall into the tank would have been about 2 meters so the scaffolders were allowed to choose whether they used a harness or a life jacket. This was recorded on the risk assessment and method statement. It has to be said that the scaffolders were exceptionally good given their reputation as a breed. Might not help a great deal other than to identify your PPE requirements.

Posted By Chas See if you can get hold of a copy of CITB publication called GE700. Section C9 deals with working over water in some detail, and gives the basis of checklist.
