Posted By Graham Clarke MIOSH, RSP, MIIRSM, MaPS Hi Guys, Need help on a project I am doing, has anyone produced a flow/process chart to ascertain the need for a permit to work; I am trying to produce this to give to our people to make the task of determine if they need a permit or not. The areas are confined space, hotworks, electrical work, working at height, breaking the ground, roofwork, asbestos. If you have anything like this please contact me. Graham

Posted By Wazza Not being one to judge, but I would suggest a permit is needed for all of these areas. In my view, a permit is part of a safe system of work, which when managed is there to 'make the job safer'. If the workers are your staff then insist they complete a permit (bearing in mind the issuer needs suitable training). Many of the areas you identified are indeed higher risk activities, which should have other procedures to go with them. Hope it helps Waz
