Hi Folks
Can anyone give me some information on METHYL METHACRYLATE MONOMER, STABILIZED? It appears on the waste carriers sheet for some waste oil drums delivered to our site. Unfortunately one of our staff felt rather unwell when he lifted the lid after the "empty" drum was delivered to our site.
Any help greatly appreciated.

HI - A quick YAHOO search under the product name brough up two interesting sites that give information on this product. Look at users.quista and medsafe.gov - the latter gives data information and safety details.
Stablisied in the title means that it either has a chemical additive to render it safe or it rendered safe by temperature control. Your operative may have been affected by the chemical or by the additive?? Dependant upon the extent of his exposure or the effect upon the person, medical assistance may be advisable. I assume the lid was replaced?

Stabilised means that a chemical has been added to the liquid to prevent spontaneous polymerisation. In the hospital service it is used for the production of false teeth, artificial eyes and as a bone cement. It is mixed with methylmethacrylate powder containing an initiator which causes the polymerisation to the final product.
