You should be looking at risk assessing the event. We had a similar day and had to ensure that all electrical equipment was either locked off or isolated. You may want to also consider erecting barriers to stop children, etc wandering into areas where they should not be.

Have a chat with your local Environmental Health / Licensing Team at the District Council. You may need to apply for a temporary event notice if you are supplying alcohol. They quite often provide guidance on how to run event safely, what to look for etc.
Useful document would be 'The event safety guide' - A guide to health, safety and welfare at music and similar events.

If you aree thinking about providing alcholic drinks and if you are providing certain entertainment at your event the requirements of the Licensing Act 2003 will need to be taken into account and you may need to apply for a Temporary Event Notice (TEN. Note a TEN only covers an event where there will be no lore than 499 people at any one time. If you exceed this you need a Premise licence to cover your event, even though it will be on private property.
If you give me your e-mail address I will send some info covering the management of safety at these types of events.
