Posted By MDE Is there a set frequency for the inspection/servicing of upward opening fire roller shutter doors? I think not.
Any help appreciated.
Thanks,
MDE

Posted By Merv Newman In My Humble Opinion :
1. they should be "observed" at least once per day (no obstructions to complete closure)
2. They should be "looked at" by local supervision or maintenance weekly (no OBVIOUS defects or weaknesses)
3. They should be "tested" quarterly. (Do they actually close when meant to)
4. They should be "inspected and tested" annually by a competent expert.
Stages 2, 3, and 4 must of course be recorded.
Question, just to keep me up-to-date. I visited a largish (1500 employee) plant last week. Warehouse was separated from production by a fire-wall. Palettes were delivered to the production side on conveyors and picked up by FLTs. Each conveyor opening was protected by a fire roller shutter. Both sides protected by separate (reserves, pumps and distribution) sprinkler systems.
Q. is this standard or even "best" practice in the UK ? I've never seen it that good elsewhere.
Merv. (who hasn't designed a sprinkler system for 15 years)(you try combining FOC and (cant remember the American authority(alstheimers maybe. (why do they use such a difficult word to remember to describe people who have difficulty remembering ?))(and who still prefers the "grid-iron" over the "root-and-branch")

14. will someone check the brackets count for me, please ? wouldn't like to be thought of as losing it.
69. Does this count as a rant, or am I allowed another go ?
Merv (or did I already say that ? )))))))))
