Posted By steven bentham It is my view that these have been significant in reducing serious head injuries. In my short time (5 years) in construction, I have three clear accidents where the i.p. would have been very seriously injured or killed if he did not have a hard hat on. (I fully agree that the other measures should have worked but when they don't this last resort measure can in some circumstances work).

I think if I remember correctly A kilogramme weight will fall at 10m per sec and this will be reduced to something like 9.89 m per sec due to gravitational resistance. In this respect a penny will not have the desired speed to penetrate the skull......Unless it is attached to a 10 kg weight! Regards

Posted By Lynne Ratcliffe Recently told that in 'places foreign and abroad' where we are using local contractors to assist in 'reconstruction plans' we have been trying to get the locals to wear hard hats and boots with little success. One accident where the guy was wearing hard hat and only suffered a cut has convinced the others on that site to wear hats and this has now spread to other sites and areas.
