Hello there

I work in a college, and we have a large hair dressing department, with regards to risk assessments they are very good, but My question is do we need to do a separate risk assessment for each bit of equipment they use, i.e straighteners hair dryers, or can i put it in to one general categories..

Is there anywhere I can find information on Hair dressing risk assessments.

Sian,

You may or may not know, but the HSE has a topic area:

Sian,
Just a thought; The HSE have a link that may be known to you http://www.hse.gov.uk/fit3street/hairdressers.htm that highlights the hairdressing risks they currently regard as important. Or you could start at the HSEs risk assessment examples site http://www.hse.gov.uk/ri...studies/hairdressing.htm

You can only "lump" equipment together if they perform the same function and have the same hazards (eg various scissors, various hairdryers). If the hazards differ that is the trigger to do a new risk assessment.
