Posted By Bill01 I attended a meeting recently where numerous safety persons were in attendence, they called themselves Advisors, Managers, Officers, Practitioners etc. It occurrs to me is there a collective noun that describes a group of these individuals, how about a 'gossip' of safety or even a 'knowledge' of safety. Bill.

Posted By Bob Shillabeer Enough frivolity now, how about a group of safety professionals, thats enough to get most worried but satisfied that no firm outcome will be reached. Seriously IOSH is working hard enough to get the profession onto a higher plain without us running ourselves down even though it may seem fun. Remember this is a public forum so others can and do see what we say about ourselves.

Posted By David Bannister Bob, I'm delighted that this is a public forum so others may see just how light-hearted we can be. I expect that a group of actuaries could be fun too, although I wouldn't want to put any money on it. I need to keep saving for the replacement elbow patches.

Posted By Bill01 Bob I can see where you're coming from and David you are right. Safety is all about striking a balance and I think all good safety people (or should that be a gaggle of safety people) can be professional when the job requires it but there's no harm in having a bit of fun as well. As that old saying goes 'All work and no play..........

Posted By Pete48 I would have thought a "miscellany" or for the posh amongst us a "melange" would suit just fine. We are such a diverse miscellany that it just seems to fit well on a number of levels. Of course there is always; a bevy, a clump, a cluster or caboodle just to cover the "C" section :):)

Posted By Richard Altoft A perspective ? Or I have heard it said of consultants - but not in this profession perhaps - that they are like Rhino - circle and paw the ground, come in heavy, once you are in their sights they never back up, thick skinned, know how to charge etc -- in which case the collective noun is a crash (of Rhino) perhaps it is a syrup - older readers will remember the motto on the golden syrup tins - out of the strong came forth sweetness R

Posted By MP Grayson Summit tells me that we should only consider a collective name if there are 5 or more H/S people in the group. Anyways. I like the sound of: - 1. A Whoop (anyone remember "not the nine o'clock news"). 2. A flange. 3. A thicket. 4. A confine. Crack on.
