Many already ask for specific docs such as H&S policy visitor risk assessment and environmental policy but I'd like to be proactive and include other relevant docs. Clients, especially those working to OHSAS 18001 will be asking for evidence of H&S competency and good safety practice. The HSE will five you a list of what is likely to be required by a client to ensure that contractors work safely. Regards

Posted By steve e ashton If you are a H&S safety consultant - and the client is asking for the generic documents as a way of getting everything 'up front' from you as a consultant - then if you are going to be professional you will need to disabuse them of the notion that generic documents will ever 'suffice'. (Although I do know of several large consultancies that appear to largely work this way...) If you are a construction contractor - then you need to be careful that your 'generic' documents don't end up being forwarded as your company's 'construction phase plan' for any specific project (it does happen...). Because most CDM co-ordinators will then advise the client that you haven't sufficiently considered the risks of the specific project. If other scenario applies - then how long is a piece of string? Your 'generic' information could include absolutely anything and everything about you and/or your company from turnover and profit figures for the past eight years, to contacts with third world countries, ethical policies, diversity policies, number of staff in various disciplines, insurances qualifications and affiliations, claims and damages settled, contractual disputes resolved and etc etc etc etc. - You have to ask why you are compiling the information - who will use it and what purpose(s) does it need to address? Without that info, you really are looking at a potentially bottomless pit.... Steve
