Posted By Andy Hemsworth We have an occasional job where a lorry mounted cherry picker is used. Our engineers are all IPAF for Self Propelled Boom and Scissor Lift. Should I have them certified to use the lorry mount? On a refresher course for SPB and SL they were told they were not allowed to operate a VMP They all have many years experience and this is a twice a year job. It is carried out in a low risk location ie no traffic and on hardstanding. I would appreciate any thoughts Andy

Posted By Tony abc jprhdnMurphy This is one of those questions that make H & S so difficult to manage. You have identified through RA that it is extremely low risk yet are you prepared to accept the blame if anything goes pear shaped? It is something we come across on a daily basis but I am always inclined to refer to the RA particularly if the outcome is likely to impact on the business. The flip side to that is that you have identified an area for training which your operatiives will certainly benefit from although there will be a cost implication. Damned if you do Damned if you dont
