I am assisting a friend with his FRA for a standard retail outlet. The rear door to the premises is a robust door but can only be opened with a handle on the proviso it is not locked. I know this does not conform with a standard fire exit door (push bar type) but with a small retail outlet is this acceptable and can this be classed as a fire exit?
I would also be interested if anyone could point out any fire guidance available (free) for retail premises.
Many thanks in advance.

In the first instance may I suggest that you go to the OPSI web-site & locate the range of free & downloadable Guidance that exists. There is a Guidance doc for the type of situation that you describe - Fire Safety - Offices & Shops. Also available on www.firesafetyguides.communities.gov.uk
