HI,
Can you let me know how many staff members should be trained to carry out Risk Assessments?
On site has 170 staff and another has about 70.
Thanks
Samantha

As many people as it takes to complete the task within the time frame you find acceptable.
Ten people might do the job in two weeks (depending on how many risk assessments need to be written).
Twenty people might do it in one week.
Five people might take four weeks.
There is no definitive answer - other than the people doing it must be competent and have knowledge of the processes to enable a suitable and sufficient assessment to be made.

How about every manager and every safety rep (whether union or not)?

As already alluded to, it is a 'how long is a piece of string' type question. Always good to involve safety reps and RES BUT it is the EMPLOYERS responsibility

All of them Samantha. And this is because risk assessment is a thought process (rather than a product or output) that is continuous throughout any operation. One of the indicators of a competent worker is that they are aware of the hazards and controls associated with their work activities, therefore, as the ones responsible for the work activity the act of assessing the hazards and associated risks means that they retain control over what they are doing, thus increasing the quality and thus the safety of what they do
Regards, Philip
