Hi Our Client is having construction work carried out in the Isle of Man. Does CDM or a form of it apply and does anyone have any advice or points of reference please? Thanks

Having worked as a Safety Adviser for an employer with a presence on the IOM I can confirm that they really do regard UK legislation as good practice., it's not just an empty phrase on the website Their DELG will be extremely happy to see a regime based on CDM as on the mainland, even if that exceeds the spec in their own take on CDM, John

Paul The IoM has CDM Regulations, albeit that they currently mirror the UK former 1994 version. So the Planning Supervisor is referred to as one of the dutyholders. Peter has provided you with the Department of Local Government and the Environment (DoLGE) website so that you can access the regulations which came into effect in the IoM in October 2004. There is a draft document due to be issued for consultation after next month which is based on UK CDM 2007. The major difference between the proposed IoM version and that of the UK will be part 4 whereby we will have the opportunity to revoke our existing 1985 Construction Health and Safety Regulations and subsume salient self regulating legislation relating to work at height, excavations and transport topics. Should you require any further information, please contact me accordingly. Stan Yellop Chairman Isle of Man Branch IOSH
