Yesterday afternoon whilst driving home, I was listening to a Radio 4 show, You and Yours regarding the Your Freedom website and listeners were asked to call in with their views. There were two H&S related views, as below, and I must point out that I am paraphrasing from memory: - “What concerns me is health and safety at work, the things you are not allowed to do. For instance, if I were a primary school teacher I wouldn’t be able to put my arm around a child to comfort them if they had fallen over in the playground, things like that. When I was at school, teachers were allowed to do that”. “Some of the health and safety laws are over the top at the moment, we need more common sense. We recently had a temp in doing some PR and they fell over and hurt themselves. There was nothing we could have done, it was entirely their own fault but they ended up suing us for lots of money ”.
