This is regularly asked so may be worth a forum search. There are many systems out there, most are similar, achieve the same end point but in different ways with different reporting ability. There is also a difference in how they operate in the filed - i.e. mobile. There can also be quite a difference in costs. It will really depend on your organisation, structure and what you want from the syste. The starting point is to be clear on the must haves and nice to have componants of the system, does it need to intigrate with other systems and does it need to be mobile and/or accessed by many people. Once you have this kind of thing established you can go and look at the market. Hope this helps

Eddy I didn't comment on the posting to which Roundtuit refers, as others had summed up the issue very neatly. However, there is a vogue at present for everything in OSH to be digital and lots of companies more than willing to satisfy their customer's needs (as perceived by the salesperson). The danger is that you get sold a pup that works fine for some widget factory with no particularly complex processes but needs major adaptation if you do lots of different tasks at multiple locations. So, it's absolutely critical that you know exactly what any digital systems need to do for YOU and define YOUR product specificaton accordingly. Otherwise you could end up spending lots and getting something that doesn't fit YOUR organisation. As Forestgate indicated on the other thread, it's probable that you could do most or all of what you want with the Microsoft packages that you probably already pay for licences to use. You just need someone in your organisation who is good at manipulating these packages to get e.g. an Excel spreadsheet that helps you track the things you monitor. P

Sorry to be boring neurotic but the phrase “managing the HSE function” worries me. The “HSE function” should be more that just collecting data and using it to create pretty graphics etc. it’s about the human factors and getting the bods to work safely. The pretty graphics can be used to encourage/threaten/harass people to play the game but only gnowtty git with the clipboard (that’s the H&S professional to you) can achieve that with current technology. At some point in the future in theory Artificial Intelligence will exist that will deal with human factors. That’s in theory only since they have replaced “the HSE function” with a purely digital creation they will be in a position to replace everybody in any business with a bit a of software and so we shall all become obsolete.

Reducing H&S to yes/no binary i.e. "computer says" is a swift route to emploment law issues.
If human beings can't get to grips with mental health what chance does an Intel processor stand let alone the poor employee at the end of the computers conclusion. Under current regulations there has to be a human capable of reviewing any automated decisions. The more we hand to automation the less we understand with empathy and compassion removed from the workplace.
These are the realms on-line retailers seem to inhabit - no employees merely numbers on a spreadsheet either meeting target or being fired.

Thanks RVT That looks like four "Reports" from you while I was still asleep and it is taking someone at IOSH a while to delete the Reported threads. So a miscreant's offering on this thread still visible but three others gone, so thanks to someone at IOSH.
EDIT to post - today's naughty post in this thread now removed. Would actually help if postings saying "Reported" were to be removed at the same time, as otherwise it looks as the Report has been made about some entirely appropriate posting previous to that in breach of the Forum Rules. And, it took awhile to 'reply' that I had reported due to the dreaded run line at the top of the post box...
