Hi, I am looking for recommnedations for COSHH Risk Assessment training. This would need to be classroom based, in house.

If you could recommend anyone that you have used it would be appreciated

thanks

The cost is £825 per head on the HSE web pages. Wow. If you have the relevant knowledge do it yourself. If not best of luck

I am not convinced that a 25 minute on-line course is sufficient to ensure competence to do COSHH based risk assessments. The basic COSHH for cleaners and others I deliver takes 45 minutes. An assessor course will probably take a whole day at least.

To provide a basic  level of training for risk assessment for skin exposure to chemicals takes at least one day. It should include how to identify the real chemical hazard (generally not what is on the safety data sheet), the need to take account of airborne skin exposure, effects on the skin from inhalation and ingestion and how to identify where skin exposure could cause or contribute to systemic toxic effects (damage to internal organs), how we assess the extent  of any actual/potential skin exposure ( there is no practicable and validated method of skin exposure measurement ). We are then faced with trying to assess the potential significance in terms of damage to health. This is particularly complicated when dealing with mutliple exposures to irritant chemicals (and for skin water is an irritant) since irritant contact dermatitis is almost always as a result of multiple exposures to many different irritants. And remember that occupational skin disease is frequently chronic in nature, i.e. what you do now may not result in a skin problem until much (possibly years) later.

So not quite as simple as many assume.

Chris

@Kayjbee74 It would help if you specified what industry you are in. For example, a small office based environment would probably get away with a much less intensive course than a fabrication plant. We are assuming because you wish to train several people it is towards the more hazardous end of the spectrum, in which case I would agree that you require something more instructive.

This is the all singing all dancing COSHH assessor course. It's face to face, takes two days and costs £825. And you have to get to HSL which is a long way from anywhere. It’s not even that close to Buxton!

Probably the best course out there

I understand your concern about potential advertising against forum rules. It's important to maintain a fair and helpful environment here. Regarding Zaki's contributions, I think Zaki might actually be trying to help by guiding others toward authentic sources. I noticed this in another comment, where others pointed out the incorrect resources being shared. It seems like Zaki's intention is to ensure that accurate information is shared, which can be quite beneficial.

Dear Manikandan Krishnan from Kanchipuram, Tamil Nadu, India,

I use my real name and maintain my original identity. I'm uncertain why you aim to present yourself as a Western individual. My employment background is not pertinent to my response; I'm simply providing helpful information for others. I didn't include any links and merely acknowledged someone's answer. If you have valuable information to share, please do so, but refrain from intervening in every thread. Thank you.

Best regards,

Dear Taha Abdul Ghani

Not sure why you would wish to assert that Alan Haynes is not who they present as, nor why their geographical location would be of any relevance whatsoever.

We have users of these Forums from many geographies across the World, albeit with most being based in the UK or Ireland.

Many users of the Forums are NOT health and safety professionals but probably do not read the disclaimer in the Forum rules which includes:

IOSH is not responsible for the content or accuracy of any of the information contained in forum postings. Please carefully consider any advice you receive.

Hence any comment that is made that gives advice which if taken could easily result in harm to someone at work is unhelpful.

One of the advantages of having an uncommon name is that I am well aware how easy it is to find out information about people whose names include one or more uncommon feature even if it might only the name in full which is very likely to be unique, and more so if that name can be linked to something or somebody else as has obviously been the case with you on these Forums.

Hence, I guess that one of your roles is as "Search Engine Optimization Analyst" for a certain training company that may or may not be getting advertorial content on some recent postings on thes Forums.

....and perhaps that company should read Forum Rule 8 and consider very carefully whether the company (and those working for it, whether they be human or AI) are complying not only with the letter, but also, the spirit of the Rule.

PARTICULARLY if what the company's agents post would be suboptimal advice to any reader, so as to put people at increased risk of harm, and thence such that the company's reputation could be damaged.

The Forum Rules prohibit anyone from having more than one identity on these Forums but the relevant Rule can be relatively easily broken whilst it can also be bypassed by multiple users working in tandem, whilst purporting to be entirely independent.

Some longstanding users of these Forums have memories of misuse of the Forums for various purposes including marketing or general mischief, hence why the odd "Report" has been confirmed in relation to recent postings here. Also why some are rightly suspicious if two or three new users spring up in a short space of time and all appear to be commenting to similar purpose.

I remember buying products from the said training company. Its reputation has been severely tarnished in my eyes in just a few days by what appear to be their agents whether the company has or has not endorsed what those agents have been doing here.

Does the company actually want its reputation to be mired?!?!

thanks 3 users thanked peter gotch for this useful post.
