Hi, 

I'm looking for some guidnace on the difference between racking and shelving and should they be treat the same regarding installations and inspections. 

I understand the racking is a skeletal frame generally without shelves, guidance HSG76 advises SEMA approved but they can be a trained spectialist within the organisation.

Can anyone help on the shelving side of things or should we be grouping the same.

In short Joweyes, Pallet Racking is serviced, or has the potential to be serviced, with Mechanical Handling Equipment. Shelving, strictly speaking, is hand loaded. Pallet Racking requires regular in-house inspection on an at least a monthly basis depending on usage frequency. Shelving can be inspected on a less regular basis, again depending on location and usage. An Independent inspection is expected by the HSE on at least an annual basis.
