If an employee has over 7 days off from work due to a back complaint due to a trip is this reportable?
Thanks in advance.

was the back complaint caused by a work activity or a personal activity? If it was related to the indivduals work, then it will be an over 7 day injury, therefore reportable

He was walking from one work area (traffic marshal) to the passenger terminal for a break. .

So we have established the IP was at their place of work heading to a rest break area. Were they carrying anything heavy/bulky related to their employment duties e.g. moving a desk? Was the roadway / footpath / kerb / steps in a good state of repair? Was visibility good especially where artificial lighting sources are provided (e.g. it wasn't a stairwell with a blown bulb)? Were the employees footwear (especially company supplied) in a good state of repair - laces tied, no split or worn soles? Summarising - if they were walking along a flat well maintained roadway in broad daylight with correctly worn and well maintained safety footwear and "tripped" over their own feet the answer is no report required - NOT work related. If their work supplied footwear was falling apart, if the lighting was bad due to lack of maintenance, if the roadway was uneven / broken kerbs / broken or loose grid covers due to traffic movement then there is a work related factor and it becomes reportable.

Thank you.
PPE all adequate.
He could’ve used our pedestrian walkway to return to the terminal but instead took a shortcut which has kerbs, uneven ground. He has an existing back problem which was worsened by a cycling accident the previous weekend.
Until he returns to work, which will take him over the 7 day period I cannot define exactly how and where he fell. There were no witnesses

So there is a pre-existing back injury.
There is then a cycling injury the week-end before. They were taking an unofficial route of their own volition i.e. not using the designated walkway. Not reportable......
....until you tell us it was a work supplied bike, during overtime at the terminal.
