With the news that Bradford schools are to "trial" air purification to tackle Covid would the school caretaker changing the HEPA filter and subsequently coming down with Covid be reportable?

Equipment had been installed for a specific purpose to filter Covid and other contaminants from the air.

Changing filters would be a normal caretaker duty.

Having been to London I am pretty sure there are more than 200 handrails in the underground - just how do you determine such a trial was succesful?

Agreed changing the filters would be "work" and if Covid were to be contracted during such activity this would be work-related. Would still have the problem of proving that Covid (or something else) had been contracted then rather than from some other sources.

As regards the London Underground experiment if would be interesting to see what trials had been undertaken before a decision to invest in technology on 200 escalator rails, which in itself would be a tiny fraction of all the rails on LUL escalators (even before starting on the handrails on stairs!!).

On the basis that each escalator has rails on each side, that't only 100 escalators. Wouldn't be surprised if one of the major overground/underground interchanges has 100 escalators and travellators at a single station.

So, I suppose if say Kings Cross has 100 escalators and travellators (some operated by Network Rail) you might be able to construct a rrial that might produce statistically significant results to compare rates of Covid amongst commuters into different London termini, subject to the assumption that user take up of the "Hold onto the handrail" rule is similar in each terminus.

But, you would have to check that none of the rail operators messed up the trial. If e.g. GWR installed similar at Plymouth, Bristol and Swindon, then the absence of such technology at Paddington might produce skewed results.

Can we expect an investigation into links between those selling this to Government and other agencies and political donations?
