Occupational Safety & Health Consultants Register OSHCR

Renewal time has come around once again and before I just blatantly renew and pay my £70, just wondering what the changes/improvements have supposedly been bought in as promised back in 2022 when ‘taken over’ by IOSH? Having been a member since Mr Grayling pushed it into existence, can’t say I have had any benefit from it apart from the odd sales call trying to sell me products!
So paying already for IOSH Chartered Membership fees, which aren’t cheap, wondering where does the fee actually go from the OSHCR membership? To IOSH also?
Asked the questions but no responses? Is the OSCHR fit for purpose?

When I am looking for a consultant to assist my employer the OSHCR is nowhere on the list of resources. It slipped from prominence on the old HSE web site. On the revamp it is noweher to be seen with a simple search returning 404 page not found

Hi Sally Difficult to know where the money goes, but according to the IOSH Annual Report for FY 2023, ie to 31 March 2023, there were 998 consultants on the Register on that date, who had paid in roughly £65,000 (which would be about right if the renewal fee is £70).. On page 78 of the Annual Report you can find a breakdown of IOSH staffing. Indicates ONE person working for OSHCR in FY 2022 and NONE in FY 2023. OSHCR might be getting support provided by staff allocated to other parts of IOSH.

Hi Sally A PS Following the publication of the IOSH Annual Report for year ending 31 March 2024 (FY 2024) iosh-annual-report-and-accounts-2024.pdf I have looked at the numbers. By chance I found a posting on these Forums in which someone mentioned that in early 2012 - so soon after the launch of OSHCR - there were about 2700 Consultants on the Register but that this had dropped by about 500 by November that year. IOSH Annual Report for FY 2021 was for the period to just after IOSH took over OSHCR so it is not surprising that the number of Consultants on the Register was not mentioned. Annual Report for FY 2022 says 1,168 at the end of that FY.....but (noting that all financial numbers are to the nearest £1000) income was £69k. I don't think the annual registration fee has changed in recent years, and at £70 per year that means that about 986 had paid their dues. Report for FY 2023 says 998 at the end of that FY.....but income of £65k which equates to about 929 paid up. Report this year doesn't mention a figure for numbers at 31 March 2024 but cites an income of £60k which equates to about 857 paid up Consultants. This year's Annual Report says that only £42k of the money brought in was spent, but OSHCR funds are "restricted" whereas all other IOSH funds are not, so it is possible (or probable) that unrestricted IOSH funds have been spent propping up the Register. Note 5a to the accounts in the IOSH Annual Report indicates broadly where IOSH staff are allocated and says this year that NO staff are allocated to support OSHCR and it is difficult to see how the Register could operate without any human intervention! There has been a recent thread on LinkedIn about what IOSH is doing for OSCHR with inputs from a member of the Presidential Team and an IOSH Trustee/Director of OSHCR.
